Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

About Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Lupus disease, also referred to as systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE, is a chronic, relapsing autoimmune disease of the connective tissues that can affect various organs, such as the skin, joints, kidneys, and serosal membranes. Lupus disease is of unknown etiology but is thought to be a failure of the regulatory mechanisms of the autoimmune system. Lupus symptoms include swollen joints, extreme fatigue, skin rashes, and sensitivity to sunlight.
